Activating your switch
When your switch arrives, open the app and tap Activate My Switch. Then hold it to your phone’s tap spot (a band by the wide part in its middle, a card flat, a ring against the top of the phone) and keep it still for a few seconds.
Every phone is different
The tap spot is where the phone’s NFC reader sits. It is the same spot for activating your switch and for a friend tapping it.
- iPhone: the top edge, by the camera. iPhone XS and newer read a tap with the screen on, no app needed. iPhone 7, 8 and X need the NFC Tag Reader button in Control Center.
- Samsung Galaxy: the middle of the back.
- Google Pixel: the upper middle of the back, just under the camera.
- Other Android phones: usually the middle of the back. NFC has to be switched on: Settings, then search “NFC”.
Most cases are fine. A metal case, or a wallet case with cards or a magnet in it, can block the tap: take it off to activate.
Changing where it points
Tap a widget on your Home screen. Your switch points there at once.
New phone
Sign in the same way on the new phone (Apple, Google or your email), and your switch comes with you.
Your plan
Settings, Your Switches, tap the switch, then Manage its plan, to change your card or cancel.
